James 4: 1-17

From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of G

5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

I have been led to the Book of James here recently. I am a humble servant of GOd through His Son Jesus Christ. I say this always not to boast about what "I" do but what GOD does through us. I find that it is necessary to always seek God in all things. You don't have to go around and try to pound in the message of Christ into peoples heads as if they are beneath you because they aren't serving as you may be. Prayer, first and always, Christ say to His disciples in Matthew 6:9-13 on how we should pray. James goes on to say here in verse 2)Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain:, notice the Colons? When we as being in the body of sin which will perish, we lust and desire to do things in this life. Some wants and desires serve ourselves and some for others but are hard to accomplish because we try or strive to do things ourselves. It says at the end there: "we cannot obtain:". The verse is completed by "ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not." . We must ask, it goes even further in verse 3" Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts." It doesn't matter what it is whether you are struggling with addiction, or struggling to help others. If you strive to do it for yourself and by yourself, you go about it the wrong way. When we serve God through ourselves, we must always seek Him first and humble ourselves to Him!

This chapter goes on in verse 11 and 12, which immediately tells us after humbling ourselves to God, that there is one Lawgiver and that is God!!! in Verse 11) He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. We must accept others and be their example, not judging one another but loving and seeking peace with all. Thirdly James writes here about "worry" in verse 14. Only God knows what the future holds. We can make all plans for the future, but shouldn't let the worry about what may or could happen in the future affect our "today serving Christ". Verse 15 tells of how or what we should be doing and saying: "If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this or do that." It tells us, and is very clearly to me, We are subject to God's Will. everything is at the pleasure of the Lord. I know everything I have and do is from the Lord. I say this not to glorify myself but as a witness to the Love , Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness from God. So He is glorified by my humble service to Him. We all should be striving to meet this goal. I say this not in comparing one to another but as individuals according to the Spiritual Gifts from God to us. It is like, running a marathon; someone is first and someone is last and all finish at some level. By accepting Christ and Humbling ourselves to start the race, run it as you can, doing your best as an individual and finishing it. Not worrying and comparing ourselves to each other, but focusing on what the Lord and His purpose for you!

This chapter was finished up in verse 17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Something to remember, if we are to be obedient to the Lord we must always do what is right. Do those things that we know we must do in our service to God. He has written them in our fleshy hearts and minds and not on tablets of stone. We must establish our Faith in Christ, by our Faith, to serve according to the Law of Liberty, from Christ. May God Bless you always!!! This picture says it all for me!!!
